The southern mole cricket damages turf and pasture grasses, mainly by tunnelling (because it is largely carnivorous). Dissection of their guts to reveal the contents has shown that southern mole crickets feed largely on a diet of insects and other soil-inhabiting animals, and only to a slight extent on plants. This fascinating little insect looks like a cross between a mole and a cricket. Its wide front legs are well designed for digging holes in the ground. The holes have an interesting purpose. The cricket uses the series of tunnels it digs in the ground as a kind of a "stereo system" to amplify its calls.

The Mole Cricket is a large insect that will typically reach mm in length during adulthood. Unlike typical crickets, it does not feature the elongated hind legs of most species. This pest burrows in soil and so its front legs are adapted to give it extra strength. Mole cricket identification. Mole crickets (see drawing right and picture of mole cricket here) are crickets, insects closely related to grasshoppers, that burrow in soil instead of living above ground like other crickets. Mole crickets have front legs that are adapted to burrowing and lack the jumping hind legs that are characteristic of some crickets and grasshoppers.

Mole Crickets (オケラ, Okera) can be found during the winter and spring, making a low, repetitive noise underground, from which they can be identified. Players will have to dig in the area in which the noise is loudest. Having been uncovered, the Mole Cricket scuttles away and if left alone for long enough, it escapes by burying. It can drop into a body of water as any crawling : Gryllotalpidae - Mole crickets. The mole crickets are the family Gryllotalpidae, of broad insects about 3–5 cm ( inches) long, with large eyes and shovel-like forelimbs for burrowing and swimming.. Mole crickets are omnivores or meat eaters, feeding on larvae, worms, roots, and predators of mole crickets include birds, rats, skunks, armadillos, raccoons and foxesClass: Insecta.
